Yet to explore it further and compare with several other commentaries. Sometimes Bible is the best commentary in itself. It is not in the plan of God to make the Bible so difficult for a man on the street to understand His Salvation plan for the human race.

However, if you have a commentary by John MacArthur, John piper, and RC Sproul, you really only have one commentary, because all three of them are reformed theology, which makes the three commentaries an echo chamber. To get three different commentaries, and thus, three different analyses you would have to get commentary from three different theologies. For example: J Vernon McGee, John MacArthur, and Believers Bible commentary would provide wisdom from three different councils.

Reviewed by (Kenneth Fall, Banning, CA, US) - To everything there is a season, as Solomon said, and this I found to be a pleasantly surprising fit for a commentary. Although the Believer's Bible Commentary is not intended as a critical tool for biblical exegesis of the original text, it does make helpful comments on the Greek and Hebrew, where appropriate. It is a highly readable blend of verse by verse comments coupled with biblical introduction and survey. Based upon the NKJV, it is highly readable and approaches the text from a conservative, premillennial position. Neglect not the commentaries! Of course, the Spirit of God will best use one verse of Scripture to interpret another, which is the beauty of the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge and the Ultimate Cross-Reference Treasury. But, the utility of a running commentary reinforcing, correcting, or explaining the biblical text, as iron sharpens iron, will make this commentary extremely useful. Consider this a tool to expand your usefulness for the kingdom of God. Remember, to whom much is given, much is required.

There are many explanations given to explain teaching that is not easy understood by many, along with scripture to support the statements made. Where error is taught on some of these subjects, the writer refutes that error and shows where they are wrong. There are also lovely meditations, and challenges given which in themselves are a blessing as you read them. A highly commendable Commentary for any believer who wants to know their Bible and their Lord.

It's very complete as some aren't, but not too much information either. It's not preachy as some commentaries are and it's also even-handed, showing different points of view on some things, freely quoting others opinions. It, the NKJV, and the NASB are the only things I've paid for, for e-Sword, that I use. I highly recommend it.

I've had this commentary for a about five years or so, and have referred to it quite regularly in my studies. To be able to keep a commentary alive is to have it made to be inspiring to the reader, and this is what I found to be with this one. Also, what makes a commentary worthwhile to have and to keep, is to reference it in sermons, articles, thesis's, and books, of which I have also done with this one.

This is conservatively based, well written, with no verbiage. He explains the main points and stops. Many authors seem to believe that more is better, when it is just more.
Mac Donald does not water down the importance of the Holy Spirit, which is common in most modern commentaries.
I received this as part of a special introductory package. It is the best value in eSword. If you did not take advantage of it shame on you. Take a Mulligan.

William MacDonald was a man of God who honored Christ with his live and his writings always point to the simple truth that Jesus Christ is the only Lord and Savior.

Not as happy as I'd like to be with version content (in some areas) but extremely satisfied with the e-Sword format. It's easy to use, quick, and very good for comparison. An excellent value and I will recommend the e-Sword format, but would not recommend the commentary itself.

I like commentaries that are not intellectual. Sometimes commentaries become too in depth. This commentary has depth, but at the right level for a person that just wants to know the meaning of a simple Scripture. As a pastor sometimes you feel like you're reading a commentary and it has turned into a lecture. Very simple and very concise Dr. McDonald uses some application in his notes which is what I'm looking for in almost every commentary these days although I did not purchase this commentary right away after getting esword. I waited a little while. And now I wished I would've had it all along. It complements everything I have in my Esword library. excellent addition

The need for serious commentary

Reviewed by (Darrel Yontz, Albuquerque, NM, US) - To the serious Bible student, commentary needs to be impartial and logical. For the beginning student, he needs solid conclusions based on scripture. The BBC is Calvinistic in its teaching. The fact that Calvinism (respected for centuries written by John Calvin) is followed by many, it is the surmisings of a man. For Mr. McDonald to follow someone else's thinking as commentary for himself offers that he has not authored his own personal thoughts on the scriptures itself. (Review Acts 2:38) He explains this passage in view of Calvinistic thinking. I prefer simple explanation of the passage at hand without the suggestion of a creed made by man being included. Since this offers a slant, I cannot take it seriously in my studies. Those looking for justification of Calvinism will really like this commentary. Let me also say that any commentary is man's opinion and that Mr. McDonald has every right to express his belief any way he desires.

The electronic version is helpful for teaching to excerpt comments of his directly into my notes, and I don't have to have his huge book attempting to stay open on my desk. Highly recommend it.

Is reliably conservative and pre-millenial in it's doctrinal view yet, as others have stated, it does give opposing viewpoints when appropriate. Aside from the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, I find myself using this commentary more than any other on e-Sword.

Understanding made easy

Sometimes we get so narrow minded in our quest to understand, that our judgement gets clogged in a sea of information.
This is when it is good to step back and get a new perspective on our subject at hand, usually with the added bonus of light being shed in a different sphere all together.
Every perspective can therefore be analyzed with a new found sense of achievement and understanding.

We use this in our family for bible study. When we read a portion of scripture we discuss then pull this commentary to see what William McDonald has researched.
I use this in my personal study in E-Sword and it has been extremely helpful in preparing Bible lessons for Young People and the adult classes.
It works very well with E-Sword.

I was exposed to the hardcopy edition of BBC by friends of very conservative theology (which I generally consider a good thing) who were using it as a supplement to the gnerally excellent "Gaebeleins' Concise Commentary on the Whole Bible" by A.C. Gaebelein, contributor to the original Scofield Reference Bible. (By the way, this commentary would also make an excellent addition to the e-SWORD commentaries -- may it be so, Lord.) It is generally, in my experience, appropriately conservative in approach and does show acuqaintance with older, less-accessible in style and language commentaries though it does on some points of controversy summarizes the opposing views and, where no fundamental doctrine of christianity is at question, leaves the choice of poits of view to the reader with perhaps an implied encouragement for one do more research on the issue themselves. It's generally verse-by-verse format lends itself perfectly to the e-SWORD format. A wonderful tool in general.

An excellent addition of a commentary to give more depth & scope [to what I have from] Matthew Henry's commentary. This gives an excelent breadown of the verses under questin, and should enable all Christans who want a much deeper knowledge and undersatnding of God's wonderful word to blossom and bear fruit in th way we should. This is akin to extra fertiliser to make that happen.

This commentary is an excellent resource for the Bible Student. It is easy to read and understand and doesn't get heady. I don't endorse it fully since (in my opinion) it is not doctrinally correct when it comes to salvation in Jesus, but it does help give insight into historical and cultural things.

Although I don't always agree with any commentary, I find this resource to be an important addition to my personal Bible study times. It's always great to have input from brothers and sisters in the Lord from many backgrounds so that the Spirit can lead us into all truth. I should point out that I also do often think that the BBC gives valuable and accurate insight into scriptures. As with any commentary, read with the knowledge that this is the opinion of other Christ followers who may or may not be correct in their interpretation. I would purchase this commentary again.
